Mary Runner studied art at Morehead State University. After graduating, she worked in newspaper ad design and printmaking. Now, she seeks to create art in her own voice. She began working in encaustics about 4 years ago and was enthralled by the luminosity and transparency. The wax seemed to be filled with endless possibilities. As she works, she explores the idea of different paths intersecting and converging, the physical and the spiritual emerging, the barriers and boundaries giving both a feeling of safety and imprisonment. Recently, she and her family moved to a log cabin near Poteet, Texas and they are enjoying all the new challenges and possibilities of county living.
